Roughing It

Normally when I rough out a panel for a comic strip, it's all squiggly spring forms that might sorta look like people if you squint. This time, I started with sketching out the actual shoulder and neck, shrank that part quite a bit then sketched out the rest of the picture. I'm still going to have to cut off a lot, but I liked how this came out for about 5 minutes worth of work so I thought I'd share it.

Hm... still need to tweak the ear, and there's lots of cleanup to be done, but not that bad, eh?

Hey, it's Hermiod!

First off, if you haven't seen the Stargate Atlantis acceptance of the Spacey for Best Show, you should probably check it out as that formed the basis for this strip. Go.. look.. this will wait.

Okay, now here's a possible 'what happened when the cameras stopped rolling' on that uh, acceptance speech.

Congratulations to everyone involved in Stargate Atlantis; while the actors are the most visible part, it takes all of you (writers, costumers, directors and yes, even catering) to make the whole thing possible. Now, on to the Artist Notes:

I want to thank Joe Mallozzi for posting all those nifty behind the scenes pictures from set, I couldn't have done the conference room panel without them. Also, thanks to StargateCaps which saved me from pouring through (and likely getting highly distracted by) my own dvd collection.

And yes, I know this is extremely late. I think my tardiness is genetic; nobody in my family is capable of being on time.

Also, just to be clear, Costuming, Promotions and Catering are not vicious and were, in fact, quite nice to this wide-eyed, OMGStargate-enthralled lady. Or maybe they were just on their best behavior that day... hm.... Anyway, no insult intended to those folks as I have nothing but good memories of them.

One last thing, for those folks who aren't so involved in Stargate that they recognize these guys in the last panel: from left to right we have Martin Gero, Joe Mallozzi, Carl Binder, Martin Wood and Wil Waring. Also, I apologize to Wil since I'm still not entirely happy with his 'look' here, but that's pretty much the 5th version and the closest I've gotten without nearly throwing my wacom stylus in frustration. Could I have substituted an easier to draw director? Probably but Wil is 'my' director and thus has a special place in my heart (awwww).
